One of the many definitions of Harmony in the dictionary is “a pleasing combination or arrangement of different things”, and I suppose that’s what this space is all about, a pleasing “à la carte” menu of recipes, ideas and nutrition information to help you on your health and wellness journey. What and how much you chose to take along with you is up to you but whatever that may be I certainly hope it serves you well.
I embarked on this blogging journey to share with others what I am learning on my journey to achieving health, harmony and balance through food and nutrition. I would say that I’ve been relatively health conscious since my teens but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I took some serious interest in how food and nutrition really impacts our health and well being, and with that I made some drastic dietary changes and kicked it up a few gears in the kitchen.
My health and well being philosophy has evolved since I first hit that publish button, and my food choices have followed, but all in good ways. The focus of this space is and always has been wholesome plant based foods, but now with more flexibility and variety. I no longer subscribe to a strict macrobiotic diet, as I once had but I continue to apply some of those principles as they have played an important role in guiding me to health.
On this journey I’ve uncovered my passion for all things nutrition and the inner workings of the human body, and I am currently completing a course to become a Registered Holistic Nutritionist through the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, which I can’t wait to put into practice, so watch this space.
In the meantime, I’ve started incorporating a Nutrition 101 section in some of my posts, where I talk about the health and nutrient benefits of some of the ingredients I’ve incorporated in the recipe. Some posts may be a lot lighter on the nutrition information, but the recipes will always be created with the same focus and attention on whole food ingredients, that are seasonal, organic and local, whenever possible.
That said, let’s not forget that food is nourishment for the soul as much as it is for the body. As such, many of my recipes are inspired by comfort foods of my childhood, my travels, my Lebanese heritage, my Canadian upbringing and my current life in Italy, with a little fusion in the mix.
I’m infinitely inspired by the variety of fresh local mediterranean produce that surrounds me in this beautiful country, my fellow food bloggers, my holistic nutrition studies, the ever growing health and wellness community at large and YOU the readers, and I’m so excited to be able to share the results of that inspiration with you here in this space.
